This operation was a milestone for the port, and for Ecuador, as it was the largest vessel to call at the country.

“Only a few days ago we inaugurated an extension to our berth of 120 meters, in addition to new support areas and equipment, with the precise aim of receiving larger ships. This vessel belongs to one of the APL services that we receive and represents an advance for our port in its continual support for Ecuadorian foreign trade,” said TPG Executive Chairman, Enrique Brito.

He added that STS Super Post Panamax cranes had been recently acquired by the Company and they were fully operational while the vessel was loaded and unloaded, which involved transferring 3,500 containers.

The vessel is 299.9 meters long, 48.2 meters wide, with a draft of 14.5 meters, and will be operated by the subsidiary APL, to link Guayaquil with Asian ports while passing through the new Panama Canal. The vessel has 1,600 reefer connections and will take shrimps, bananas, wood and other cargo to Asia.

Terminal Portuario Guayaquil is a private port that has been operated by SAAM since 2006. It provides services at the Santa Ana estuary, in Isla Trinitaria, a suburb of the city Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Its main container cargo includes exports of bananas, shrimps and cocoa, and imports for the retail sector.
