The online valuations platform said the 17,544-ldt ship was sold “as is” in China for $315 per ldt, or just over $5.5m.
However, latest AIS data has the vessel, which was built at China’s Jiangsu New Yangzijiang, anchored off Singapor.
The Portuguese-flagged vessel’s most recent employment was reportedly a three month charter to Maersk Line which finished at the end of November.
The ship was delivered to Hammonia Reederei on 15 January 2010 and was chartered to CSAV under a five-year charter contract, according to the German shipowner’s website.
Prior to the sale of the Hammonia Grenada, the youngest containership to be sent for scrap is thought to be the 4,250-teu India Rickmers (built 2009).
