Four times a week, the Shuttlewise train calls on Antwerp, where it connects directly to the IFB routes from and to Spain. According to Director Martijn Elbers, this constitutes Rotterdam’s first direct rail connection with the cities of Barcelona, Tarragona, Irun and Madrid.

SHUTTLEWISE STARTS NEW TRAINSERVICE BETWEEN ROTTERDAM AND ANTWERP WITH ONGOING CONNECTIONS TO SPAIN.

The Shuttlewise train travels from Rotterdam’s Rail Service Center (RSC) to the Main Hub in North Antwerp. The ‘last mile’ distribution of containers via rail from the RSC to the terminals is handled by the Portshuttle. Similarly, in Antwerp, the containers can be forwarded to local terminals thanks to a connection with IFB’s LoRo (‘Linkeroever-Rechteroever’/’Left Bank-Right Bank’) Shuttle.

Antwerp is also where the shuttle service links up with IFB’s Spain routes. This is a new step for Shuttlewise, which started in 2009 by offering a regular service between Rotterdam and Mortara near Milan. This service presently comprises six departures per week. At the beginning of last year, it was joined by a new scheduled service with five round trips between Rotterdam and the town of Dourges in North France. Here, the Shuttlewise service connects to the Novatrans trains heading towards South France.
