JNPT has initiated a series of events in the last two months for expanding the base of DPD clients. DPD is one of the key initiatives for the benefit of EXIM trade, whereby importers can get direct delivery of their consignments at their destination to save on time & cost to a large extent. DPD, one of the key initiatives under the ‘Ease of Doing Business’, has been encouraged & promoted by the Govt of India to motivate as many importers for availing the facility. In the month of December 2016, JNPT & Jawahar customs had organized a 3-day intensive drive ‘Registration Mela’ to extend DPD facilities to all importers having granted ACP (Accredited Client Program) status.
Performance-wise, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal (JNPCT), the terminal owned by JN Port, handled 1,32, 772 TEUs (Twenty-Foot equivalent units) in Jan 2017, witnessing a growth of 4.32% over same month last year. For the first ten months of FY 2016-17 (Apr-Jan), JNPCT handled a total of 1.30mn TEUs showing a growth of 10.36% over FY 2015-16 (Apr-Jan), whereas JN Port as whole handled 3,69,781 TEUs in January 2017.
In Addition to this, the Inter Terminal transfer of Tractor Trailers, for the same month, has helped in the transferring 12,492 trucks with a completion of 15,568 transactions. A total of 3,34,486 trucks have availed thisfacility by completing 4,14,387 transactions, since its commencement in February 2015, resulting in significant load reduction at the terminal gates and on-port roads by more than 10% besides saving of fuel cost to the EXIM trade
