JNPT cargo handling continued to show an upward trend, registering a growth of 6.18% in TEUs and 5.32% in tonnes, for April-August 2017-18 compared to same period last year.

During this period, JN Port handled 20.2 lakh TEUs of container traffic, as compared to 19.02 lakh TEUs in the corresponding period of the previous year. In August alone, JN Port handled 4.09 lakh TEUs registering a growth of 8.55% compared to August 2016.

Total Liquid Cargo handled by JNPT for August 2017 was 7.40 lakh MT which is highest quantity of liquid handled at JNPT in the last seven years. The last time the port handled a higher quantity of 7.72 lakh tonnes was in March 2010. During the period of April-August 2017 the total liquid handled recorded an upward growth of 13.95% as compared to the same period last year.

JNPT handled a total bulk of 3.36 lakh tonnes during April-August 2017-18 as compared to 2.98 lakh tonnes in 2016-17, recording a growth of 12.8%. Direct Port Delivery (DPD) which is the most important initiative of JNPT for reduction in transaction cost and time for the trade has been registering a month over month growth. 32.49% of import containers were cleared through DPD in August 2017 in comparison to 3% last year. JNPT’s DPD facility has turned out to be a game changer. The facility is highly beneficial to the importers as the containers get directly delivered to the consignees within 48 hours, whereas earlier they would have to wait up to seven days under the Container Freight Station (CFS).

Another important Initiative-Inter Terminal movement of tractor trailers has helped reduce 7.5km run of the TTs in each trip. Till August 17, 4.27 Trucks completed 5.28 transactions using ITT facility and has saved fuel of over 6.4 Crore since the start of this initiative in 2015.
